Durga Charan Mitra’s Jagadhatri Puja

Bonedi Bari

The puja here is definitely very old; it began many years ago.The deity has been worshiped since 1752,and the current dalan where they conduct the worship of the idol was built over 150 years ago.The first dalan was located in C.R. Avenue, which runs through the road leading up to this area. There is no Kumari Puja, the Sri Thakurani Barandala, or any encircling of beds made from pure silver by thakkar dancers that take place in other parts of India. The puja conducted at this temple is based on Shakta rituals and features prominently certain aspects not typically found in other parts of India. Earlier bali or sacrificial offerings were performed for the goddess but these have not been held for over 20 years now due to a ban put into place at that time by order from court on animal sacrifice practices at temples within South Asian countries.
